Protection against Unauthorized Systems in your Local Area Network How can persons with regular access to your premises be prevented from illegally connecting a device to your network? LANs are, as a rule, protected by firewalls against attacks from the outside world, but who would notice if staff or visitors connect a notebook or a PDA to the internal network?

mikado soft offers its product macmon to achieve just this. macmon continuously monitors LAN and detects any unauthorized device by its unique and hitherto unknown MAC address. Upon detecting an intruder, macmon flexibly acts according to pre-defined rules, ranging from a notification to the administrator via e-mail to blocking the switch port used by the device in question.

macmon is not bound to network components from any specific manufacturer. Moreover it operates with any switch capable of being managed via SNMP.

Implementation of access control with macmon is simple. The operator needs not adhere to a uniform or consistent network structure. Neither is he restricted to certain device classes, as would be the case with the new security standard 802.1x. No additional or new VLAN structures need to be implemented.
